Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, Google Team Up to Develop Next-Gen Infotainment

The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance has teamed up with Google to develop a next-generation infotainment system. The said infotainment system is said to be integrated with intelligent features and it will start to make its way to the production cars of Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi in 2021. The upcoming infotainment system of Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi will feature an Android operating system. This means that the system will provide navigation through Google Maps and it can offer several automotive apps that can be downloaded on the Google Play Store. It will also be equipped with the Google Assistant, which gives the driver and passenger the ability to answer calls and texts, control media, find information, and manage vehicle functions with voice functions. In addition, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance will integrate Google applications and services into infotainment and cloud-based systems to enhance user or customer experience. The Alliance plans to do this by enabling easy in-vehicle access to useful applications. While it will use an Android operating system, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi says its next-gen infotainment will also be compatible with devices running with other operating system, such as Apple iOS. This move is in line with the Alliance 2022 mid-term plan, which highlights the push for next-generation technology. The Alliance is also eyeing to launch 12 new zero-emission electric vehicles and new autonomous-driving technologies.
