Thaco gets BJ Mercantile as distributor for PH market
MANILA: Thaco has signed an agreement with BJ Mercantile Incorporated (BJM), designating the latter to be the former’s official distributor in the Philippines.

The MOU was signed today (June 26).The memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two was formally signed today (June 26) — solidifying the Vietnamese-headquartered marque’s presence in the local market.

During the MOU signing, Thaco Auto Vice President Doan Dat Ninh shared that even though the collaboration has been formed, its products have already reached the country as early as 2005. Per Ninh, Thaco Auto has supplied more than 25,000 buses to its home country and exported them here — as well as in neighboring countries such as Thailand and Singapore.
“With the goal of participating deeply in the global value chain and enhancing competitiveness in the context of regional and global integration, since 2018, Thaco Auto has focused on developing Vietnamese-branded automotive products, particularly Thaco Bus with a localization rate that has now reached over 70 percent. The products have not only conquered the domestic market but have also been exported to ASEAN countries, including the Philippines — a highly potential market with a well-defined public transportation system modernization roadmap,” Ninh added.

He also mentioned that in 2019, the marque shipped its first batch of buses to the Philippine market.
Further, Ninh said that Thaco will bolster bus lineup as well as grow the brand’s distribution and service networks locally. “We hope to make active contributions to building a safe and modern public transportation system in your country,” he noted.

“With our capabilities in automotive design, manufacturing, and professional after-sales services, Thaco Auto commits to delivering the long-term concrete value and contributing to the development of the public transportation industry in the Philippines.”
Meanwhile, BJM Vice President Leilani Lim Tan shared that partnership with Thaco is in line with the firm’s “commitment to provide innovative, cost-effective, and reliable transport solutions to support the growth of Filipino businesses.”
