Ah, the DeLorean. It doesn’t get more 80s than the 1981 DeLorean DMC-12, more commonly known as the time machine in Back to the Future trilogy. In truth, the DeLorean was a commercial flop, with low sales numbers and an engine that couldn’t quite reach 142 kilometers per hour. But the cool, retrofuturistic design of the vehicle made it the perfect accompaniment to everyone’s favorite time travelling duo, Doc Brown and Marty.
1970 Dodge Charger from The Fast and the Furious
The first ever FF movie contained a lot of cool cars (A roofless Supra? Come on.), but none were quite as memorable as the ’69 Dodge Charger that even Paul Walker with a nitro boost couldn’t keep up with. That is, of course, until it flipped over a couple times. That iconic quarter mile race was still cool as hell, though.
Volkswagen Beetle from Herbie: Fully Loaded
Okay, this might be the least badass car in this list, but it’s still just as awesome as the others. One of the most iconic cars of the '60s got its own standalone movie in Herbie: Fully Loaded.
The Volkswagen Beetle, just by itself, is an icon. The wacky styling and size of the vehicle makes it so quirky and lovable. But if you give it the ability to process information and emotions, and you put it in a movie with Lindsay Lohan behind the wheel? Sounds like the perfect recipe for a movie that would span 5 installments and make millions of dollars.
Chevrolet Camaro from Transformers series
Probably the one that most people are familiar with, the iconic yellow Camaro with black stripes has always been Bumblebee. Although originally appearing as a bright yellow VW Beetle, the live action Transformers films have always depicted ‘Bee as a yellow American muscle car. In the 2007 Transformers film, he starts as an older model of the Camaro, eventually upgrading to the latest rendition of the car by the end of the movie.
(Editor's Note: The movie rendition was quite far from the cartoons as Bumblebee was also a Volkswagen Beetle and NOT a Camaro).
