Yamaha suspends Maverick Viñales from Austrian GP

Yamaha announced the abrupt suspension of Maverick Viñales from the Austrian Grand Prix through an official statement issued by the Monster Energy Yamaha Moto GP team on its official website.

According to Yamaha, the Spanish racer has been pulled out of the Austrian GP “due to the unexplained irregular operation of the motorcycle by the rider during last weekend’s Styria MotoGP race.”

Was Viñales rightly accused of blowing out his own engine?

Yamaha continues by saying that the team’s decision was based on an "in-depth analysis of telemetry and data over the last days.”

The racing team believes that Viñales’ actions in the race could have potentially caused significant damage to his YZR-M1 bike’s engine. Yamaha adds that the state of the bike “could have caused serious risks to the rider himself and possibly posed a danger to all other riders in the MotoGP race.”

In addition, Yamaha says that they are not looking to replace Viñales in the Austrian GP in the Red Bull Ring race track in Spielberg, Styria, Austria.

This means that the racing team will only be left with Fabio “El Diablo” Quartararo. To which the French racer commented in a press conference, “I have no proper comments. Not really surprised. I think and I guess many people know what happened. For me, it’s no problem to ride alone. Difficult to say something, better to ask Yamaha people than myself. For me, it won’t change anything about my weekend.”

Yamaha says that decisions regarding the future races will be taken after a more detailed analysis of the situation and further discussions between the team and the rider.
