Zhang assumes MG PH leadership post

MANILA: Wei Wei Zhang has just replaced Felix Jiang as the MG (Morris Garages) Motor Philippines president, SAIC Motor Philippines Incorporated (SMPI) announced.

In its latest announcement, the Chinese automaker’s distributor in the Philippines said that Zhang has assumed office today. Meanwhile, Jiang — SMPI’s first-ever president — will be reassigned to the brand’s arm in Australia.

Before assuming his new post, Zhang became the president of MG Indonesia. Aside from that, he was also part of the ASEAN Partner Group at SAIC Motor’s Shanghai headquarters to oversee multiple Southeast Asian markets that led to the brand’s growth and strategic initiatives.

“His appointment is expected to build upon MG Philippines’ strong foundation and continue the brand’s momentum in the country’s competitive automotive landscape,” SMPI mentioned.

On the other hand, Jiang made significant strides during his three-year career of being at the MG Philippines helm. Among them are:

• Keeping the brand in the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Incorporated-Truck Manufacturers Association’s Top 10 list
• Achieving record-breaking sales in 2024
• Securing segment leadership in the 1.5-liter sedan category

Thanks to him, the company has an expanded portfolio made up of gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines, hybrids, and fully electric vehicles because of his leadership.

SAIC Motor Philippines shared that Jiang’s tenure saw “remarkable growth, innovative product launches, and a strengthened nationwide presence of the MG brand.”

 “We are deeply grateful to Mr. Jiang for his visionary leadership and significant contributions to MG Philippines’ success,” MG Philippines Vice President Karl Pietrus Anthony Magsuci was quoted as saying.

“At the same time, we are confident that Mr. Zhang’s experience, regional insight, and strategic vision will lead MG Philippines into its next phase of growth, further strengthening our commitment to delivering innovative, sustainable mobility solutions to our customers,” he added.
