MG 5 Review
MG 5 Overview
MG 5 just got more confident as crossovers like MG ZS and RX5 can now be seen on the roads of the Philippines. More and more Filipinos are tending to understand the value of these vehicles with time. The new MG 5 has been offered more exciting and high-tech features with a mid-range price that is easy to afford.
The MG 5 aims to acclaim the subcompact sedan segment with its naturally aspirated engine. The MG 5 has been built upon the same GM Delta 2 platform that underpins the Chevrolet Cruze. This is a huge car that has 16-inch wheels not just for show but that one actually works.
MG 5 Interior
The interior of MG 5 is pretty impressive to look at the moment one steps inside the car. It features a two-tone black and cream color scheme that is made up of plastic and leather completely. Every touchpoint of the car is padded but the upholstery tends to switch on the rubbery side of the things.
The interior parts are not plusher and easily stick-on bare legs along with the stitches that are well-knitted and the trim pieces feature a three-dimensional effect. Moreover, it is the only car in the subcompact segment that features a sunroof above it.
MG 5 Exterior
The MG 5 has a very attractive grille that is very similar to that of the RX5 along with some good that adds elegance to its character. The side profile of this car features a modern car shape and that is not something common to be seen in a subcompact segment. The styling of the rear part is safe and doesn't get boring like that of the ZS and especially the taillights.
The projector halogens have LED DRL's along with a sleek and impressive loom that makes it stand out in the crowd. It is among the most uncommon designs to enter the market of the Philippines.
MG 5 Ride & Handling
MG 5 wheel feels wide from behind and the hood protrudes conspicuously into the viewer's line of sight. There is a different way in which the car drives and that makes the steering feel so natural as it controls the whole vehicle. The only limitation is the tires that offer good stability control and steering assist.
The MG 5 has been perfectly adjusted with MacPherson Struts on the front side and the torsion beam axle on the rear side that tends to be on the soft side. The overall ride is convenient for regular city rides given the steering setup on the softer side that is just made for the urban road conditions.
MG 5 Engine & Fuel Consumption
The MG 5 has a small yet efficient engine of 1.5-litre 15S4C that has been placed in the middle of a giant engine bay. The look of this engine might seem smaller for long rides but its engine is very outstanding. It delivers a standard power output of 118 hp and 150 Nm of torque that runs efficiently on 91RON gasoline.
Mileage and performance of 80 kmph have been offered by the 8-speed continuously variable Aisin transmission at just 1600 rpm. Performance-wise the engine is pretty decent and offers good fuel consumption. On city roads, this car offers the exact driving average of 6 kmpl which is quite on the lower side.
MG 5 Braking & Safety
The braking and safety features of MG 5 have a lot to offer as they have well equipped this model to ensure the complete safety of both the rider and the passenger. The safety features include four airbags, ABS along with EBD, and the reverse parking sensors that ensure complete safety during parking the car. The vehicle stability control system is like a boon to the braking system of the vehicle offering a convenient ride.
The front and side-impact beams along with the parking and crash sensors contribute to extra safety features that make it a perfect car in the whole subcompact segment.
MG 5 Verdict
The MG 5 has a true value for money if we consider the big car appeal along with its segment-best dimensions that have a long list of convenient features. The performance and decent road dynamics make it the perfect family-oriented car that comes within an affordable price range of Php 658,888.
