The BAIC X424 is a countryside-rugged but also city-sleek with panoramic reversing radar, powered windows and side-mirrors, and an overhead stereo system and strong blowing air conditioner for easing into those urban commutes
It is only available in one variant which is the 2.4L MT 4WD Standard Trim. As for the color options, it comes in six choices, Purple, Dark Sea Green, Green, Black, Red, and White which you can obtain for the price of P1.49 Million in the Philippine market.
BAIC X424 Interior
Even with its rugged and dominant look on its exterior, the X424 has a decent and comfortable interior equipped with all necessary features that get you ready for an off-road adventure to even long rides. The driver and passengers can enjoy ample headroom and leg space while feeling safe and comfortable on the bumpy rides with the fully built advance suspension setup that assures stable articulation in the vehicle.
The BAIC X424 has a typical design for the cockpit. The instrument console remains analog while the air conditioning system is mounted in the front. Below it is the entertainment system which includes an Integrated 2DIN Audio with CD player, FM/AM Radio, Bluetooth Connectivity, as well as USB Auxiliary output. These are all connected to both front and rear speakers for a better sound trip while driving.
Other interior features include an accessory power outlet, foldable rear seat, rear seat headrest, cupholders, height-adjustable driver seat, bottle holder, heater, and onboard computer.
BAIC X424 Exterior
Standing tall with a height of 1834 mm, width of 1843 mm, and length of 4350 mm, BAIC X424 is really eye-catching when used on your daily commutes.
The boxy shape of the car actually makes it more rugged, yet sophisticated, and powerful. You may notice the oddly rectangular adjustable headlights that actually makes it look like an Autobot that will transform into a war-type robot. The grille is very unique. The five-window like grilles add to the powerful aura of the car as well that thick black front impact beams that encapsulated the front fog lamp and the plate number. Going through the sides, you’ll notice more accent designs of a military vehicle like the big screw heads near the side mirror and that hinge below it also adds to the overall rugged outlook of the car.
There are more touches of blacks on the sides and some simple chiseling out there to make it look more massive.
The classic two-box form (engine compartment plus cabin) puts a densely packed body with little overhangs atop a high-riding and reinforced undercarriage with its long and wide wheelbase geometry. This is definitely ideal for long hauls and cargo loading or delivery.
Other exterior features include manually adjustable exterior rearview mirror and integrated antenna.
BAIC X424 Ride & Handling
As for the suspension, BAIC X424 is equipped with double-wishbone independent in the front and multi-link coil springs shock absorbers in the rear. The fully-independent suspension in front and the multi-linked in back ensures generous but stable articulation on uneven ground. This makes the car more appropriate for any terrains.
This car uses rack and pinion with hydraulic assist for the steering with a 5.75 m turning radius and adjustable steering column.
You can also quickly reconfigure this car from hatchback to runabout, and other configurations in between, with the easily detachable roof panels and door, you can even fold down the front windshield for that full Safari feel.
BAIC X424 Engine & Fuel Consumption
Powering this mammoth is 2.5L Turbocharged, 4-cylinder 16 valve DOHC Gasoline engine that can fire up to 143 horsepower at 4800 rpm and a maximum torque of 217 Nm at 3000 - 4000 rpm. It is mated with a 5-speed manual transmission, unfortunately, there is no automatic one, and it sends power to all four 235/75 R16 wheels at a top speed of 150 kmph.
The car has a conventional throttle type and is also Euro 4 compliant. Furthermore, it has an 80-liter fuel tank capacity.
BAIC X424 Braking & Safety
The brakes are handled by vented discs in the front and a disc in the rear. It also has an Anti-Lock Braking System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution for added safety.
Among the other safety features of this car are the Driver and Passenger Airbags, Seat Belt Warning, Rear Seat Belts, Parking Sensors, Front and Side Impact Beams, Door Ajar Warning, and Engine Check Warning. Unfortunately, these are the only safety features that you can get from BAIC X424.
BAIC X424 Verdict
This rugged 4x4 is definitely the frontrunner in terms of affordability. However, when it comes to convenience and technology, its other competitors are still on top of their game. But, this car is already good enough for a small family or a bachelor who wants to buy his own driving buddy. If you are not that very meticulous when it comes to the specifications of a car and you just really need to have a mode of transportation that is stylish and well enough, BAIC X424 is definitely a wise choice. The interior design should still be improved though as well as the additional safety features, but overall, this car is amazing on its own and can definitely go head to head with its mainstay competitors from better-known brands.
