Geely Coolray

On the inside, things have been kept quite minimalist in the Geely Coolray, but it is far from being drab-looking or even simple, to say the least. There is a sense of futuristic appeal in the overall layout of the cabin here, which is enhanced by the presence of the cool features on board.

The flat bottom multi-functional steering wheel, along with the full TFT instrument console with multi-colored displays, have been shared with the Geely Azkarra. However, what not is shared with the Azkarra is the rest of the dashboard design, which here looks slightly minimalist in comparison.

The large and wide rectangular touchscreen infotainment system is free mounted here at the top of the silver-finished central layer of the dashboard. While the upper layer of the dashboard here is finished in soft-touch red leather, the lower one is in black leather. The central transmission tunnel here is finished in premium silver. The presence of a panoramic sunroof makes the cabin feel even airier. 

The compact and midsize SUV segment is the one that has been receiving the latest design trends, and the Geely Coolray is one perfect example of it. The midsize SUV impresses one with its heightened stance and proportionate design.

The front face of the Geely Coolray has got the elongated Cosmos grille, which consists of three pentagonal designs incorporated one inside the other. This theme might looks a bit out of place on an SUV of this size, something which makes it look smaller when the sloping bonnet is taken into account. Nevertheless, the all-LED headlamps with dual L-shaped daytime running LEDs make up as a good compromise here. The fog lamp housings, which incorporate fog lamps as well as air vents, look aggressive and add some muscle to the otherwise simple looking front end.

The side profile of the Geely Coolray looks well-proportioned with a slightly sloping roofline and side body molding which flows well over the rounded wheel arches. The roofline looks even more attractive with the chrome finish around the window line. The kinked design for the shoulder line post the C-pillar accentuates its coupe-like design even more. The flared design for the front fender, the rounded curve of which seamlessly blends with the sharp character line flowing sideways, makes it look good too.

 The Geely Coolray has a slightly busier styled boot lid design, the biggest highlight of which is a rounded curve that flows from end to end from the far edges of the tail lamps. The trapezoidal tail lamps here have all LED inserts and have rounded edges to go well with the rest of the design of the SUV. There is a fine trapezoidal chrome garnish stretched horizontally between the tail lamps.

The Geely Coolray misses out on the all-wheel-drive option like that in the Geely Azkarra, but this front-wheel-drive SUV feels more dynamic in comparison. The sloping roofline and lower ground clearance do give it enhanced driving dynamics, which makes it more fun to drive nature.

The Geely Coolray shares its 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with the large Azkarra, albeit in a lower state of tune. Here, this engine is coupled to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and belts out a maximum power output of 178 PS and a peak torque output of 255 Nm.

The Geely Coolray is adequately equipped with all the essential safety features, such as front, side, and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, 360-degree around-view monitor, turn the signal camera, blind-spot monitoring system, electric parking brake, and reverse parking sensors.

For the size and features onboard, the Geely Coolray emerges as one of the most value for money SUVs out there in the midsize SUV segment. The minimalist but tech-savvy interiors, as well as the punchy petrol engine, do make it a desirable option that does not dig a too big hole in your pocket.
