Geely GX3 Pro

Inside, the Geely GX3 Pro features a predominantly-black cabin layout, which might look a bit dull for younger-generation consumers. There is also a significant amount of hard plastics all around. But, then again, we have to reconsider its price point. The aspects where its cabin excels at are practicality and functionality. Upfront, drivers are greeted by a meter cluster with a 3.5-inch multi-information display, which helps them effectively monitor their current driving conditions. Drivers of the higher trim get a leather-wrapped steering wheel with a tilt adjustment, while owners of the base trim have the polyurethane-wrapped version.

For entertainment and information accessibility, both variants feature an 8-inch infotainment display that offers screen mirroring via CarbitLink. The higher trim’s infotainment is linked to a 6-speaker sound system, whereas the base gets the 2-speaker counterpart.

The first row has more than enough space for the driver and co-pilot. However, the second row space is a bit limited for three tall and larger passengers. But, on the plus side, this crossover gets a very decent cargo volume of 400L for its size. Its PVC seats also provide decent cushioning and ergonomics for an entry-level vehicle. And, for a more premium vibe inside, the Comfort variant comes with a sunroof.

From the outside, the Geely GX3 Pro looks like a crossover version of the Emgrand. It appears more youthful and fun than its sedan cousin. At the front, it sports Geely’s signature grille and a blacked-out bumper, giving it a subtle yet sporty demeanor. Both variants come with projector halogen headlights and LED DRLs. However, only the Comfort variant gets an automatic headlight control feature.

Moreover, it has a sporty two-toned side profile enhanced by black window trims, mirrors, side garnishes, and wheel arch claddings. Sharp character lines add more depth to its silhouette. At the back, it looks pretty assertive with its LED tail lights and black rear diffuser. For more storage, this crossover comes with roof rails finished in satin silver. 

The Geely GX3 Pro model line measures 4,005 mm in length, 1,760 mm in width, and 1,575 mm in height. It has a 2,480 mm wheelbase and a 185 mm ground clearance. It runs on a premium-looking set of 16-inch dark alloy wheels. Overall, for its price, the Geely GX3 Pro’s exterior design is just right.  

The Geely GX3 Pro model line utilizes a MacPherson Strut at the front, while a Torsion Beam at the rear. This setup allows this crossover to handle sharp turns or corners confidently. A downside of this setup, however, is that the ride tends to get bouncy when passing through bumps and uneven urban pavements. But, on the plus side, it is very easy to maneuver even through tight traffic and narrow streets. On a smooth, straight line, this crossover can deliver a comfortable and very pliant riding experience.

The Geely GX3 Pro model line is powered by a 1.5L inline-4, 16-valve, DOHC engine with DVVT (Dual Variable Valve Timing) that produces a maximum power output of 102 PS and a maximum torque of 142 Nm. The higher trim’s motor is mated to a continuously variable transmission system with an 8-speed Tiptronic manual mode, while the base trim runs on 5-speed manual transmission. 

On paper, its performance outputs might not induce excitement, but it is actually surprisingly punchy off the line. The power is there when you need it, especially when cruising through the highway. Yes, it still won’t be able to effortlessly overtake slower vehicles like other faster crossovers, but it can get you from point A to point B efficiently and on time. In the city, this crossover delivers impressive fuel efficiency even in mixed conditions. Hence, it is a well-designed vehicle for daily city commuting. 

In terms of safety, both variants are equipped with driver and passenger airbags, a reverse camera, rear parking sensors, a low tire pressure warning system, and central locking. Both variants’ braking setups are also supported by an anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist. However, only the Comfort variant gets traction and stability control, hill start assist, hill descent control, cruise control, and an anti-theft immobilizer. This crossover comes with front ventilated disc brakes and rear solid disc brakes.

Despite its current flaws and shortcomings, the Geely GX3 Pro remains as a great first car option among budget-oriented consumers and career-driven young adults alike. For its accessible price points, it is feature-packed, driver-friendly, and immensely usable in the city.
