KAIYI X7 PHEV

Upon entering the Kaiyi X7 PHEV, you’ll be delighted to see its premium-looking cabin, which gives off a very luxurious feel for its price point. Upfront, drivers are treated to a high-tech cockpit that consists of a 12.3-inch full-LCD instrument panel, a multi-functional steering wheel wrapped in microfiber leather, and a diamond cut-crystal edge gear shifter. The top variant offers a multi-color ambient lighting system, while the lower trims get the monochrome version.

Meanwhile, all passengers can enjoy a 14.6-inch touch-sensitive LCD infotainment display with HiCar Wireless and Bluetooth connectivity. Its infotainment is linked to a premium sound system that utilizes eleven 3D surround speakers–delivering immersive acoustics around the cabin. 

In terms of practicality and convenience, this SUV comes with roomy first and second rows, which can effectively accommodate five passengers. However, its third row lacks headroom and legroom for taller and larger passengers. But, on the plus side, its Nappa textured leather seats are plush and supportive even on long trips. The top variant offers four USB ports (front: 2, rear: 2), while the lower trims only get two at the front. The Versions 2 and 3 variants also get a wireless charger for a more premium feel. 

The Kaiyi X7 PHEV’s hypermodern design strikes a balance between sportiness and elegance. Upfront, it flaunts a trapezoidal grille with a classy-looking rectangular pattern. It has a confident glare courtesy of its boomerang or T-shaped LED headlights. 

On the sides, it features a futuristic-looking silhouette, accentuated by ‘concealable’ door handles as well as integrated turn signals on its door mirrors. This SUV runs on 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels, which give this car a premium vibe. Meanwhile, at the rear, it also flaunts T-shaped LED taillights, which look really appealing at night. And, to add a layer of sportiness to its overall appearance, this SUV gets a quad exhaust system at the back. 

In terms of dimensions, the Kaiyi X7 PHEV model line measures 4,738 mm in length, 1,968 mm in width, and 1,708 mm in height. This SUV also has a 2,820-mm wheelbase. All variants come with a panoramic sunroof–giving younger-generation passengers that ‘IG-worthy’ lighting inside.

The Kaiyi X7 PHEV model line utilizes a MacPherson independent suspension at the front, while a Multi-Link independent-type at the rear. This SUV is enjoyable and nimble to maneuver for its size. It also absorbs bumps and other road imperfections quite well. It also remains composed and stable even at high speeds. Overall, this PHEV can deliver a supple and satisfying ride for you and your family.

All variants of the Kaiyi X7 PHEV run on a hybrid powertrain, which combines a 1.5L turbocharger gasoline engine with a single permanent magnet synchronous motor that delivers a 150-km CLTC pure electric range. The gasoline engine produces a maximum power output of 102 kW (137 hp) and a maximum torque of 231 Nm, while the electric motor generates 55 kW (74 hp) of rated power and 105 Nm of rated torque. This SUV runs on a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission system and utilizes a 4x2 front-wheel drivetrain.

On the open road, the X7 PHEV can deliver a nice, lively pull. You’ll be able to effectively overtake slower vehicles on free-flowing highways with this SUV. Meanwhile, in the city, it also offers great fuel economy even in mixed conditions. Additionally, the top-of-the-line also has adaptive cruise control and front and rear parking radars, whereas lower trims get the regular cruise control and only a rear parking radar.

All variants utilize four-wheel disc brakes. This model line’s braking setup is supported by an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, traction control system, electronic stability control, hill-hold control, hill-descent control, and an emergency brake assist.

In my opinion, the Kaiyi X7 PHEV deserves more attention from the local consumers. It is a strong option for budget-conscious families and young professionals who want a well-rounded 7-seater midsize SUV but find established competitors like the Mitsubishi Montero and Toyota Fortuner beyond their budget.
