Benelli Motobi 200 Evo

The Benelli Motobi 200 Evo looks macho (i.e., very masculine) and elegant at the same time. It has that expensive classic appearance that is definitely a head-turner on the road. Its design language blends the laid-back proportions of a custom cruiser with subtle touches inspired by a cafe racer. At the front, it has a classic round central headlight, which provides top-notch illumination and visibility especially at night. It also features round front signal lamps. Its side view has an abundance of black finishes, adding a hint of sportiness in its silhouette. Meanwhile, at the rear, it also comes with a round tail light and signal lamps.   

The rider gets a digital instrument cluster that displays the speedometer, odometer, single-trip information, neutral indicator, and the revs. Its premium double seat provides decent support and plenty of room for the rider and his or her passenger. However, this bike might be a little too low for taller passengers, hindering them from setting a proper and relaxed posture while on the road. But, for many Filipinos who are below 6 feet (like me), riding this cruiser will definitely be a breeze. 

In terms of dimensions, the Benelli Motobi 200 Evo measures 2,140 mm in length, 800 mm in width, and 1,050 mm in height. It has a 1,440 mm wheelbase and a 150 mm ground clearance. This bike runs on a 17-inch aluminum alloy wheel at the front and the 15-inch version at the rear.

The Benelli Motobi 200 Evo utilizes a suspension combination of telescopic forks at the front and a preload adjustable dual-shock absorber at the rear. On a smooth straight concrete road, this runs smoothly and delivers a very comfortable cruising experience. However, when it comes to hitting turns, cornering, or passing through city traffic, its heavy weight is very noticeable. But, at the end of the day, it is still an entry-level city cruiser that is designed to pass through smooth, civilized roads rather than rough and uneven off-road terrain.

The Benelli Motobi 200 Evo is powered by a 197cc, 1-cylinder, 4-stroke, 2-valve engine that produces a maximum power output of 12.92 PS (9.5 kW) and a maximum torque of 13.9 Nm. This retro cruiser runs on a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox.

Its engine might not have the most impressive performance metrics in its segment, but surprisingly, it has a punchy power delivery. In the city, you’ll definitely have no problem with its acceleration. It is swift and has a responsive transmission system. For its size, it also has a surprisingly good fuel economy. Hence, this cruiser would make an efficient daily ride inside the city. 

One of the main weaknesses of the Benelli Motobi 200 Evo is its lack of an anti-lock braking system and a set of safety features that most modern bikes already have as a  standard. Its braking setup consists of 280 mm large-diameter disc brake rotors at the front, while the 240 mm counterparts at the rear. Its front and rear brakes are both equipped with 2-piston calipers.

For its price, the Benelli Motobi 200 Evo is certainly a strong choice within its segment here in the local market. It has a very high potential to maintain its presence in the country if Benelli addresses its current flaws and shortcomings. Overall, it is decently-equipped for an entry-level retro city cruiser.
