Honda TMX125 Alpha Review
Honda TMX125 Alpha Overview
The Honda TMX125 Alpha is one of the cheapest and most basic commuter motorcycles one can buy in the Philippines. The motorcycle has been in the market for a very long time now and has gained a solid reputation for the reliability and low ownership costs it offers. Honda has priced the TMX125 Alpha at PHP 51,400, and has made the motorcycle available in three colour options – black, red, and blue.
Honda TMX125 Alpha Design
The Honda TMX125 Alpha is clearly not a motorcycle that belongs to this generation of motorcycles. One looks at it and anyone can say that this motorcycle is from the bygone era of the twentieth century, for the TMX125 Alpha looks too dated and bare bones.
The Honda TMX125 Alpha has a very simple design, which commences from a rectangular headlamp at the front. This headlamp is surrounded by a chrome garnish and is flanked with rectangular amber coloured turn indicators which are mounted on horizontally shaped triangular chrome bases. Below the headlamp, there is a small chrome plate between the front forks, on which the Honda badging sits proudly. Like in all the entry-level bare-bones commuter, the front fender of the Honda TMX125 Alpha is finished entirely in chrome.
The side profile of the Honda TMX125 Alpha looks simple and easy to the eyes, with a low positioned and almost flat fuel tank which has a sloping design for its upper surface. This, along with the trapezoidal-shaped side body cowls, does come with simple body decals to make sure that it doesn’t look extremely plain-jane at all.
The side body cowls do come with vertically placed small slats for hot air dissipation. While the engine components are finished in grey colour, the sleek and long exhaust pipe is black in colour, with the latter featuring a chrome shield towards the end. The presence of spoke wheels is quite an obvious thing here.
There are no proper rear side body panels, like in every cheap commuter motorcycles, and the Honda TMX125 Alpha gets a large, wide, and almost flat seat. Behind the seat, there is a large and very functional tubular grab rail, below which sits the rectangular tail lamp. The turn indicators are mounted on the chrome finished rear fender.
The handlebar is positioned at quite a height, which gives the Honda TMX125 Alpha a very upright seating posture. The single pod instrument console shaped in a rectangular manner comprises only the bare basic things like speedometer, odometer, and fuel gauge. The build quality is acceptable for a motorcycle of this class.
Honda TMX125 Alpha Ride & Handling
Thanks to a very low kerb weight of just 108 kgs, the Honda TMX125 Alpha is a motorcycle that is very easy to handle and manoeuver. The motorcycle is equipped with a very basic suspension combination of hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and coil springs at the rear. Honda has also provided the provision of adding a couple of additional coil springs to make sure it complies with the occasional demands of carrying heavy loads at times.
Honda TMX125 Alpha Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Honda TMX125 is powered by a four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, carbureted, 125cc engine, which is currently the smallest motorcycle engine in the Honda lineup for the Philippines. The engine is coupled to a 5-speed gearbox and has the ability to produce a maximum power output of 9.8 PS and a peak torque output of 9.4 Nm.
Honda TMX125 Alpha Braking & Safety
Besides the modern features which have become a necessity in motorcycles, the Honda TMX125 Alpha also lacks a number of safety features, including the ABS which has become a norm in more premium motorcycles. The motorcycle features drum brakes at both the ends.
Honda TMX125 Alpha Verdict
At the price point on which it is being offered, the Honda TMX125 Alpha is one spectacular value for money deal. The motorcycle is purely not for those who are out for even a decently modern thing on two wheels, as it looks severely dated. However, the core strengths of this motorcycle lie in its capable engine and suspension, which are sufficient to carry heavy loads with ease.
