Car makers one after the other are taking serious effort in ensuring the safety of their cars, and car buyers only stand from this sustained and strengthened safety effort from the automotive industry as a whole.

The latest car to earn the distinction as one of the safest on the road is the Honda Odyssey minivan. The car’s 2021 model has just earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) highest accolade, the 2020 Top Safety Pick+ rating. For heads of big families who want to keep all members as safe as possible during travel, the 2021 Honda Odyssey minivan deserves to be on your shortlist.

Qualifying for a 2020 Top Safety Pick+ award means a vehicle must earn “Good” ratings in six crashworthiness evaluations, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. In addition, a tested car also needs “Advanced” or “Superior” ratings for both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention, as well as “Acceptable” or “Good” headlight ratings across all trim levels.

The 2021 Honda Odyssey is the first minivan to receive a 2020 Top Safety Pick+ rating, and the only one in its category to earn a top rating for its LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system, earning accolades for its ease of use.

The new Odyssey also earned "Superior" ratings for its standard front crash prevention system after IIHS conducted vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian avoidance tests.

All 2021 Honda Odyssey trim levels come standard with Honda Sensing safety suite. Included in this suite of driver-assistive technologies are features such as Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) with Pedestrian Detection; Forward Collision Warning; Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) incorporating Lane Departure Warning (LDW); Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS); and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

The Odyssey minivan also comes with the added safety provided by the Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure. ACE works with the Odyssey’s onboard advanced supplemental restraint systems to protect occupants in a wide variety of frontal collisions.

The 2021 Odyssey is the seventh Honda model to earn 2020 TSP ratings or better from the IIHS.
