In a recent United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) test, the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 SE Long Range RWD variant clocked in at 580 kilometers (km) on a single charge, the South Korean carmaker announced.

  • What is the estimated kilometers per liter (kpl) equivalent of the Hyundai Ioniq 6?

Per the carmaker, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 has an estimated 59.5kpl equivalent.
  • What is the key to the Hyundai Ioniq 6’s good United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-estimated range rating?

According to Hyundai, the key to its good EPA-estimated range rating is its ingenious streamliner design that helps reduce the vehicle’s overall drag coefficient to 0.22.
  • Meanwhile, the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 SE AWD achieved an EPA-estimated range of 508km.

“Continually improving the efficiency of our vehicles is always a top priority for our development teams. Instead of just adding a larger battery to increase the range, we chose to optimize IONIQ 6’s aerodynamic performance and its Electric-Global Modular Platform for efficiency to produce these long driving ranges,” said Hyundai Motor North America (HMNA) Product Planning and Mobility Strategy Vice President Olabisi Boyle.

Further, the said EPA test also confirmed a “140 combined miles per gallon-equivalent (MPGe) rating” — or 59.5 kilometers per liter (kpl) — for the Hyundai Ioniq 6 SE Long Range RWD. Per HMNA, the combined MPGe rating of the Ioniq 6 matches that of Lucid Air models, which are at the top of Fueleconomy.gov’s 2023 Top Ten Vehicles list.

Key to this is the ultra-low drag coefficient of the Hyundai Ioniq 6. Per the automotive brand, the Ioniq 6 has a drag coefficient of 0.22. This, Hyundai explained, is all thanks to an ingenious streamliner design that features a low nose, active air flaps, wheel gap reducers, elliptical wing-inspired spoiler with winglet, slight boattail structure, separation traps on both sides of the rear bumper, full underbody cover, deflectors, and reduced wheel-arch gaps.

Below is the final EPA-estimated range for all current Hyundai Ioniq 6 trim levels:
