Bonifacio Estate Redesigns Burgos Circle Speed Bumps
Following the clamor over social media over the allegedly "destructive" speed bumps in Bonifacio Global City, the Bonifacio Estate Services Corporation (BESC) has redesigned those in the Burgos Circle area but has retained those that are in Bonifacio High Street.
During a roundtable discussion, BESC General Manager Jun Galvez said that they have adjusted the ramp of the speed bumps, making it easier for cars to drive through the asphalt device.
Galvez said that prior to the clamor, they tested the speed bumps by driving a fully-loaded passenger car over it and found that they had no problems doing so if they approached the device slowly.
According to him, the speedbumps are based on international standards: four inches high and three meters wide.
"Right now, we've adjusted these speed bumps. The height is still four inches but we have stretched the flairings so the cars could glide over it," Galvez said.
The rationale for the retention of the speed bumps height, he claimed, was to ensure the safety of pedestrians in the area.
Based on the data BESC has gathered, daytime population of foot traffic on a weekday is around 700,000.
However, Galvez said that they would retain the design of the speedbumps at Bonifacio High Street where the foot traffic reaches 140,000 daily on weekdays and around 200,000 on weekends.
"We want to keep the pedestrians safe especially on these areas where the foot traffic is high," he said.
Relatedly, he said that the one of the main offenders of those who approach the speed bumps hastily are taxis.
