Bus Driver Hits MMDA Exec's Car, Attempts to Flee the Scene
A driver of a provincial bus liner sideswiped the vehicle of Department of Transportation (DOTr) undersecretary and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) general manager Tim Orbos. The untoward incident occurred last Monday, August 8 on EDSA, Manila’s main thoroughfare. The driver now faces suspension for his actions.
Jundy Javier, driver of the Five Star bus that hit Orbos’s car, was bound for Camiling, Tarlac when he sideswiped the latter’s car. According to Orbos, Javier didn’t even stop after hitting his car and instead continued plying along EDSA. With his wife as passenger, Orbos chased the bus down and blocked Javier, who allegedly accused Orbos of being the one at fault.
“Got sideswiped by a reckless bus driver just now while on a leisurely Sunday 40km/hr drive with my wife,” Orbos posted on his Facebook account detailing the incident. “It was a hit and run incident until i blocked him going to the flyover. Then this bus driver had the arrogance and temerity to say i sideswiped him! Only when his conductor told him i was with the mmda/dotr that he apologized and he said just like anyone he makes mistakes.”
Orbos said that he referred the erring bus driver to the MMDA enforcer who was present at the scene. He said that the incident has nothing to do with his position, but the driver must be held accountable for his actions.
Immediately after the incident, Orbos required Javier to attend the driving academy of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) where he will need to undergo an assessment and pass an exam before he can be allowed to drive again.
As for internal sanctions for Javier, Orbos said that he will let Five Star handle the case. He later texted a popular news agency that Javier has already been suspended from his job.
