Denza D9

MANILA: Denza Philippines has officially launched its initial entry to the country’s premium people mover segment — the D9.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What powertrain does the Denza D9 use?

It uses a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine and two permanent magnet synchronous motors.
  • What is its overall range?

Its combined range is 970-980 km.
  • It is touted as a luxury multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) that targets affluent buyers, as the Denza brand, which was built on the strengths of both BYD and Mercedes-Benz

“The collaboration between BYD and Mercedes-Benz is a ‘powerful partnership’ combining BYD’s battery, motor, and motor controller technology with Mercedes-Benz’s vehicle manufacturing expertise and safety philosophy,” BYD Group Chairman Wang Chuanfu was quoted as saying.

On that note, the Denza D9 is positioned to meet the needs of upmarket car buyers who prefer to be driven, than to drive.

Here are some of the notable features of the Denza D9.

    Exterior

The exterior of the Denza D9 exudes opulence.

Starting at the front, the MPV boasts its π-Motion fascia with a “diamond-cut” grille. The meshwork uses minimalist lines that extend to both sides for — what the brand describes as — a cleaner look.

It gets LED lights, chrome accents, and some stylish shapes.

The side profile is designed with the “meteor trail waistline” that runs through the front and back with a smooth motion. This blends well with its power sliding doors that are present on each side. Chrome accents are placed on the window surrounds while the side mirrors get some black highlights that match its pillars.

Rounding up its sophisticated appeal from this angle is a set of two-tone 18-inch wheels wearing 235/60 Michelin e-Primacy tires.

Its rear end gets a roof-mounted spoiler with a light bar for its high-mount stop lamp. And while we are on the topic of lights, the taillamps are called “star feather taillight,” which Denza explains to be “a full-length integrated light bar with a dynamic lighting-inspired flow effect when illuminated.”

It also has a chrome trim on the bumper with two reflectors on each side, and a very convenient power tailgate.

    Other stories:

    Interior

Inside, the Denza D9 has plenty of technological and convenience features. For example, the driver gets to play with a clear — and very informative — head-up display, a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, and a 15.67-inch floating infotainment screen with smartphone connectivity.

Speaking of smartphones, a wireless charger is available at the center console for convenient charging while driving. The use of wireless charging technology also helps eliminate clutter to maintain the clean aesthetics of the cabin.

The dashboard, too, is fitted with real wood veneers, which not only makes the cabin more luxurious but also adds a layer of exclusivity as the unique wooden grain and patterns will ensure that no two Denza D9s are the same.

More toys are found at the back, which is why owners will want to spend more time on the second (or third) row rather than at the front.

Changing the way people travel is the Denza D9’s captain seats with zero gravity technology, which are designed to provide superior ergonomics and relieve back pressure when traveling. These not only have ventilation, which is useful during hot days, but also a massage function to make even the worst traffic jam a relaxing experience.

Each captain chair has a dedicated touchscreen control panel to access the many functions of the MPV with ease.

The very livable area is also flexible with a pull-down backseat table, for those who want to snack (or work and attend business meetings) while traveling. It also has a freezer that can keep cold drinks cool and hot beverages or food warm. And finally, the “fam-favorite” panoramic sunroof with power sunshade that allows natural lighting to enter the cabin, whether one wants to get back to their reading or take beautiful selfies.

The above setup makes the following figures:
