MANILA: The country’s automotive distributors posted a 10-percent year-on-year decline in sales in January 2026, reflecting a slowdown after the yearend surge.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Which are the top five brands in terms of year-on-year sales figures for January 2026, according to CAMPI-TMA?

According to CAMPI-TMA, the top five brands in terms of year-on-year for January 2026, as reported by CAMPI-TMA are Toyota, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Nissan, and Ford, in that order.
  • How many units did CAMPI-TMA member brands sell in January 2026?

In January 2026, CAMPI-TMA member brands sold a total of 33,696 units.
  • In a joint report, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) said combined retail sales reached 33,696 units, down from 37,504 units sold in January 2025.

The January figure was also 21.4 percent lower than the 42,870 units sold in December 2025.

The commercial vehicle (CV) segment — which typically drives overall industry performance — likewise declined, with sales falling to 27,518 units from 29,875 units in the same month last year.

On the other hand, the passenger car category recorded a steeper drop, decreasing 20 percent year on year to 6,178 units from 7,729 units previously.

When consolidated with other available industry data, total automotive sales for January 2026 reached 35,053 units.

Despite the overall decline, electrified vehicle (xEV) sales continued to grow. CAMPI-TMA members sold 2,610 xEV units in January, 63 percent higher than the 1,600 units delivered in the same period last year. Electrified vehicles accounted for 7.75 percent of the market during the month.

Hybrid electric vehicles comprised the bulk of xEV sales, with 2,072 units sold, representing a 79.39-percent share of the electrified segment. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and battery electric vehicles posted sales of 277 and 261 units, respectively.

In a statement, CAMPI expressed optimism despite the slower start to the year.

CAMPI President Jose Maria Atienza said the lower January sales were expected following the traditional yearend rush in the automotive market. He noted that December 2025 marked the industry’s strongest December performance since 2017.

Atienza added that January’s sales indicate the industry remains on track to achieve its full-year target of surpassing 500,000 units. Adjusted for seasonality, he said, the January performance aligns with the steady pace observed in the second half of 2025.
