The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is expediting the release of the P3 billion subsidy for public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How many PUV drivers and operators will receive the said duel subsidy?

Per DOTr, a total of 1.36 million beneficiaries will receive the fuel assistance.
  • When will the distribution of the fuel subsidy begin?

According to the agency, the distribution of the fuel subsidy will begin once the funds had been transferred to DOTr.
  • According to the agency, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said that he had ordered the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to immediately distribute the fuel vouchers to PUV drivers after the funds had been transferred to DOTr.

To note, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the release of the aforementioned funding to cushion the impact of spiraling oil prices among PUV drivers.

“Now that the funds have been approved by the DBM, we will make sure that our PUV drivers get immediate assistance,” commented Bautista.

Per LTFRB, a total of 1.36 million beneficiaries will receive fuel assistance.

The list appears to have been trimmed down after the finalization of its master list, as the agency previously said that the number of beneficiaries targeted by the said subsidy program was around 1.64 million.

Of the said recipients, 280,000 “units” will receive a one-time cash grant from the LTFRB while while 930,000 tricycle drivers and operators as well as some 150,000 delivery service riders will receive assistance from the Department of Interior and Local Government and the Department of Information and Communications Technology, respectively.

As for the amount, DOTr said that modern public utility jeepney and modern UV Express drivers can expect to get P10,000, while operators of other modes of transport will receive P6,500.

On the other hand, tricycle and delivery riders will get P1,000 and P1,200 assistance, respectively.
