DOTr, Joyride give 500+ displaced drivers new job opportunities

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and motorcycle taxi service JoyRide have partnered to provide livelihood to drivers and conductors who lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

Under the DOTr-JoyRide Sustainability Program, more than 500 will be given income as JoyRide MC (motorcycle) Taxi Bikers and JoyRide x Happy Move Delivery Driver, the DOTr said.

Even more JoyRide MC Taxi Biker and Happy Move Delivery Drivers can have a source of income as applications in the DOTr-JoyRide Sustainability Program are still open.

The DOTr said that interested drivers or conductors who want to be a taxi biker or delivery driver can create a JoyRide Biker Account, and apply using this link . More details about the jobs are also available within.

Shortlisted applicants will undergo orientation, safety training, and a skills test at the JoyRide PH Onboarding Facility in Antipolo City, the agency said.

The JoyRide x Happy Move Driver is open to applicants from 20 to 55 years old. Applicants who are aged 50 to 55 must submit a fit to work medical certificate, the DOTr explained.

The partnership came after DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade's appeal to provide livelihood to displaced drivers.

′′I also extend my gratitude to the JoyRide leadership for this initiative. It is a big thing to give hope to our colleagues in the road transport sector, so that no one will starve, no begging, and no one will be left behind," Tugade expressed.

′′The entire JoyRide leadership is welcome to work with the DOTr to provide alternative income to our displaced drivers and conductors. This is part of the service offered by JoyRide to ease the suffering of our countrymen especially amid the pandemic," JoyRide Noli Eala said.

Meanwhile, Tugade emphasized his appeal to give displaced workers a chance to have income.

′′I again ordered LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board) and LTO (Land Transportation Office) to review and strengthen their response and various programs especially those who lost their jobs.
I repeat, to our fellow drivers and operators, our service contracting program is here, where you can apply to have regular salary and incentive," he concluded.
