  • What is the MMDA's rationale on the dry run extension?

MMDA Acting Chairman Romando Artes said that the dry run extension for the newest traffic ruling on the country’s widest thoroughfare is to give motorists to get used to it as well as to give way to patching works that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is currently undertaking.
  • How many motorists were flagged down from March 9-16 in line with the new traffic rule in the area?

A total of 9,757 motorists were flagged down along Commonwealth Avenue following the dry run from March 9-16.
  • MMDA Acting Chairman Romando Artes said that the dry run extension for the newest traffic ruling on the country’s widest thoroughfare motorcycle lane — which will give motorists more time to be familiar with the policy — is designed to give way to the patching works that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is currently undertaking.

The MMDA chair explained that the road repairs along the area, which started last week, was made in response to the agency’s request based on motorists’ concerns posted over social media stating that the highway has uneven portions and has potholes.

“The MMDA is grateful to the DPWH for acting quickly to our repair works request, which would help in lessening accidents,” Artes said.

“With another week of dry run, we hope to inform more motorists to avoid confusion before full implementation,” he added.

Per MMDA record, a total of 9,757 motorists were flagged down from March 9-16; 7,584 of which are private vehicles while 2,173 are motorcycle riders.

In addition, the MMDA is also eyeing for reflectors and solar street lamps to be installed to avoid accidents in the area.

The designated motorcycle lane is located on the third lane from the sidewalk and is aimed to reduce motorcycle-related road crash incidents and ensure smooth traffic flow along Commonwealth Avenue.
