Euro NCAP records highest number of cars tested in 2022

According to Euro NCAP, the surge of automobiles tested under the program are mainly due to its increased geographical coverage and the emerging Chinese brands.
To note, Austria and Norway recently joined as new Euro NCAP members.
Further Euro NCAP released its annual “Year in Numbers” where the organization considers the highs, lows, and emerging trends of the year.
Euro NCAP observed that in 2022, 22 out of the 65 new models tested were electric vehicles (EV). This means that 34 percent of all the tested automobiles in 2022 were electric.
Additionally, Euro NCAP added that five out of six Best in Class winners were EV models.
“For Euro NCAP, 2022 also marked 25 years of making cars safer. Looking back on the progress we have made with our sponsors, test labs, and partners, and how different safety looks for consumers today when we test cars – we are so proud of what we have accomplished. In 2023, we have huge developments ahead including a real step forward on the road to Vision Zero with new protocols in car testing that will consider the wider implications on vulnerable road users, but also consideration of a new target group that will be announced later in the year,” said Euro NCAP Secretary General Michiel van Ratingen.
