euro ncap best in class 2022

The European New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) has announced the nameplates that have been awarded the best-in-class winners for 2022.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What were the Euro NCAP categories for best-in-class for 2022?

The Euro NCAP categories for best-in-class for 2022 are Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable User Protection, and Safety Assist technologies.
  • What nameplates were announced winners of their respective classes?

The winners, according to Euro NCAP, are Hyundai Ioniq 6, Ora Funky Cat, Tesla Model S, Tesla Model Y, and WEY Coffee 01.
  • Per the independent organization, the following cars have achieved the highest overall scores based on their results for Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable User Protection, and Safety Assist technologies.

They are the Hyundai Ioniq 6, best-in-class award winner in the Large Family Car category; the Ora Funky Cat in the Small Family Car category; the Tesla Model S in the Executive Car category; the Tesla Model Y in the Small Off-Roader category; and finally the WEY Coffee 01 in the Large Off-Roader category.

The Euro NCAP team noted that the Hyundai Ioniq 6 achieved exceptionally high results in Adult Occupant Protection — 97 percent to be specific. For child occupants, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 provided good protection for all critical body regions of both the six- and 10-year-old dummies in the frontal offset and side barrier tests and scored maximum points in this part of the assessment.

As for the Ora Funky Cat, the professionals from Euro NCAP said that it was exceptionally well equipped and, being at the top of its class, outperformed several familiar brands.

Similarly, fellow Chinese brand WEY Coffee 01 also performed well in all categories thanks to its suite of standard equipment and technologies.

The Euro NCAP team also praised the Tesla Model S and the Tesla Model Y. The two electric vehicles, Euro NCAP said, are both high achievers in Adult Occupant Protection. Further, both vehicles achieved the highest score of 98 percent in Safety Assist of all the vehicles in this list. The Tesla Model S is also the best-in-class achiever in the Pure Electric category.

“2022 has been one of Euro NCAP’s busiest years yet and we have seen a lot of new car makers and new technologies. It’s clear a good Euro NCAP rating is seen by car manufacturers as critical to success in Europe. This can only mean better safety equipment and safer cars for European consumers all around,” said Euro NCAP Secretary General Michiel van Ratingen.
