First Porsche club celebrates 70 years

As the first-ever Porsche Club celebrates its 70th anniversary, the number of clubs and members under the brand around the world continue to grow.

The Stuttgart-headquartered marque said in a statement that the Porsche Club Westfalen (original name is Westfälischer Porsche Club Hohensyburg) was founded May 26, 1952, some two years after the brand first delivered its sports car in Germany.

Currently, more than 700 groups under the brand were created worldwide “with in excess of 240,000 members in 86 countries.”

The first international Porsche Club outside of Germany was established in Belgium in 1953 and Porsche Club of America — which is the largest Porsche Club worldwide — was created in 1955.

According to German automaker, approximately five new clubs are being set up every year. To note, only the brand's Club Coordination arm can officially recognize new Porsche clubs.

“Porsche would not be Porsche without the global community of friends and fans who come together to share their passion for our brand,” Porsche AG Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing Detlev von Platen said.

“The Porsche Clubs preserve the legend of our brand, while at the same time their members are involved in social, sporting and community activities, and in this way are also representing our values. This makes the clubs attractive for young and old. We are delighted to be able to celebrate this special anniversary,” he added.

Since the groups are “autonomous, independent, registered associations” and are “organized jointly and on a voluntary basis by their members”, each one offers a unique program and range of services.

Further, the club members’ vehicles vary from classic to current Porsche models. “Even the purely electric Taycan is increasingly being seen at club events. Classic Clubs around the world are particularly dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of historic Porsche cars,” Porsche added.

Relatively, Porsche said that numerous activities and celebrations under the “Enduring Passion” banner are planned to be implemented throughout the year to mark the 70th anniversary.
