GAC, Huawei collaborating for electric SUV set for 2023 release
GAC Group officially announced its joint project with tech giant Huawei. The two firms will work together to develop an SUV, slated to hit the market in by the end of 2023.
As the first joint product of the two enterprises, GAC said the vehicle will be of medium-to-large size, purely powered by electricity. The Chinese car maker added that it will also bring "exciting new energy capabilities," Level 4 autonomous driving, and an EV lineup by 2025.
This future e-SUV, and multiple other future models, will utilize GAC’s GEP.30 chassis platform and Huawei’s CCA (Computing and Communication Architecture), as well as carrying Huawei's full stack of intelligent vehicle solutions.
"Since signing a strategic cooperation agreement in 2017, GAC and Huawei have worked together in developing intelligent connected EV technology, and accelerated many strategic cooperation projects, achieving the mass production of multiple systems," GAC said in a statement.
In September 2020 in Guangzhou, the two firms signed an agreement to further deepen cooperation, with a focus on computing and communication architecture that's in keeping with the trend towards software-heavy vehicles.
"The global market for electric vehicles is only growing," GAC said. "Data predict that the EV global market will expand almost fivefold between 2016 and 2027; an annual increase of 20 percent. GAC Group is positioned to fully embrace this trend towards creating cleaner, greener, better cars."
