Contending with traffic has made me believe that Filipinos are probably the most adaptive people north of the equator: Those in Metro Manila even more so. The average commute time to and from places of business can bring the smallest of subcompacts, or the largest of land yachts down to five kilometers per hour. We know this, and we prepare for it by advancing our departure time – by an eon. However, there’s one aspect we often take for granted, up until we’re sitting idle in our cars with the problem staring us in the face: parking.
I can’t speak for all, but I’m sure I can for most, that oftentimes we’re overwhelmed with frustration (and/or hunger) when we’re trying to park the car within, say, the vicinity of Bonifacio Global City. Lines upon lines of cars running idle, wasting gasoline while waiting for a slot to open up.
Fetch. It isn’t a traffic solution; it’s a parking solution. And a good one.
“If someone spends an hour a day looking for parking, at 250 working days in a year, that's 10 days a year wasted. This is why we are launching the Fetch Valet Parking app, which will provide users with a valet on demand, so they never have to stress about parking again,” says Martin Luchangco, founder and CEO of Fetch Valet.
With a few simple taps on the Fetch Valet Parking app, you can request for a valet to meet you at your destination as you arrive. The valet will park your car in a secure lot nearby, and the app sends you a photo confirmation of your car at its exact parking location. When you are about to leave, the app lets you request for your car to be returned, and a valet will have it waiting for you when you get out. The all-in parking fee of Fetch Valet, at just P45 for the pick-up plus P15 per hour, has attracted many users to avail of the service every day, or every time they drive into the area.
Prior to its official app launch, Fetch had already amassed a user database of over 60 cars on a daily basis. Currently operating within BGC, the group behind Fetch aims to expand beyond it, and are looking to tackle the problematic areas of Makati’s CBD and the equally combative Ortigas area in the very near future.
Fetch has taken considerable steps to secure the safety of your vehicle. Protocols include stringent selection, vetting and training of valets, tracking of valets through GPS-enabled devices, and having insurance coverage to ensure the company will cover the costs in case any damage is caused by its valets. Luchangco assures us it’s parked, locked and secure.
At first available on iOS devices, the Android counterpart is set to arrive in the coming months. Customers can avail of the service by messaging Fetch Valet on Facebook Messenger.
