HPI cancels 2020 Honda Pilipinas Dream Cup

With the looming problem of COVID-19 still on the horizon, along with the uncertainties brought about by the situation, Honda Philippines Inc. (HPI), has announced the cancellation of this year’s Honda Pilipinas Dream Cup (HPDC).

HPI Adviser for Motorsports Ryosuke Arai said that the move to stop the forthcoming race this year is to ensure the safety and welfare of all the people in the tournament.

“The health, safety, and well-being of all participants, their supporters, and sponsors is our priority. Amid these difficult times, we want them to focus more on keeping themselves and their loved ones safe and secure,” Arai explained.

However, HPI assured that despite the cancellation, both racers and motorsports enthusiasts alike can still expect the same heart-pumping excitement HPDC come 2021, when they come back, with the same objective of helping to develop young riders’ skills and fulfilling their dreams and aspirations as professional racers.

In line with the “ONE DREAM” campaign, HDPC also envisions to help people experience the joy of mobility.

The highly-anticipated motorsports campaign continues to carry out its mission during these difficult times, as more and more people began using motorcycles to accommodate their daily transport needs.

“Even though the Dream Cup was canceled, our mission to help Filipinos fulfill their dreams using our wide array of cutting-edge motorcycles will continue. We see it as a responsibility that we must strongly uphold,” HPI MC Planning Department Manager Hervic Villa said.

Back in March (before COVID-19 became widespread), Honda announced they already have chosen the young guns to be part of this year’s motorcycle racing program. Of the numerous participants in the tryouts, only eight were picked, including one ‘probationary rider,’ and the remaining five as ‘reserved riders.’
