Hunch follows KPMC exec announcement to unveil model that would corner 30% share of company sales goal for 2024
Kia Philippines Motor Corporation (KPMC) might bring in the latest iteration of the Stonic to the market.
The hunch came up after KPMC Chief Operating Officer Brian Buendia said that the company will unveil a model for 2024 that will corner around 30-percent share of the sales goal for the year.
To note, Stonic is a sales frontrunner for Kia Philippines and the nameplate has yet to receive an update since its local inception back in October 2020.
If correct, the new Kia Stonic will form part of the four vehicles that will be introduced in the country within the year — to be made up of battery, hybrid, and internal combustion engine-powered models.
Not long ago, Buendia — as well as AC Motors Group Automobile Group President Antonio Zara III — confirmed the arrival of the Kia EV5 to the local market. They also said that the aforementioned model will be joined by two other new energy vehicles. Completing the targeted launches for next year would be an internal-combustion-engine-propelled model.
While waiting for the confirmation from KPMC, here are some details about the updated Kia Stonic found in overseas markets.
Contrary to the version that is retailed locally, the new Kia Stonic abroad is shorter by 35 millimeters (mm), lower by 83 mm, and narrower by 10 mm. However, its wheelbase is longer by 10 mm.
The new Kia Stonic also has a new front fascia as it is now fitted with a smaller grille and comes with new headlamp as well as fog lamp designs).
The European-spec version is fitted with 16- to 17-inch alloy wheels (depending on the variant) and offers body color options namely Honey Bee, White Pearl, Blaze Red, Astro Grey, Midnight Black, and Azure Blue.
Inside, the new Kia Stonic is outfitted with an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Under the hood of the new Kia Stonic is 1.0-liter T-GDi ISG engine with a mild-hybrid set-up for the higher-tiered options. The mill is mated to a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
