Kia EV5

Upon entering the Kia EV5, you are greeted by a premium, minimalist cabin that offers an impressive mix of comfort, practicality, and modern functionality. Up front, the driver has access to a 12.3-inch TFT LCD instrument display, a synthetic leather-wrapped 4-spoke steering wheel with multiple controls, and a wireless charger for his or her mobile phone. 

For entertainment and information accessibility, this EV comes with another 12.3-inch TFT LCD infotainment display paired with the driver’s instrument panel. Its infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and is connected to a 6-speaker sound system. Aside from that, the EV5 is equipped with a total of four USB ports (front: 2, second row: 2).

Moreover, its cabin can comfortably accommodate five adult passengers. This EV comes with a 67-L frunk (front trunk) and a maximum cargo capacity of 1,714 liters at the back (with rear seats folded), proving that it is indeed practical for everyday family use. The higher-spec GLS trim features leather-fabric seats for elevated comfort and a more premium riding experience, while the base GL gets the full-fabric counterparts. The GLS trim is also fitted with a panoramic sunroof with a one-touch safety feature.

Right off the bat, the Kia EV5 features a futuristic exterior design that emphasizes its electric character wherever it goes. At the front, its “Digital Tiger Face” styling is enhanced by Kia’s “Star Map” signature lighting, which consists of 3-celled LED headlamps with blade-like LED daytime running lights (DRLs). Underneath, it gets a sculpted bumper featuring a chrome accent with distinctive pointed edges.

From the side, its design exudes a smart, futuristic aura, highlighted by its flush door handles, electric-folding door mirrors with a heating function, and dynamic-looking 18-inch alloy wheels with shuriken-like rims. Additionally, blacked-out pillars and wheel arches, as well as chrome side skirts add more detail to its overall silhouette on the road. 

Like its front end, the rear also features a hypermodern design, with its curved LED combination lamps, a high-mounted third brake lamp, and height-adjustable power tailgate (exclusive to the GLS trim). The rear spoiler also contributes to this EV’s dynamic and athletic look. And, on top, it is also fitted with a roof rack for additional storage.

In terms of dimensions, the Kia EV5 model line measures 4,615 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,715 mm in height. This EV also has a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. The higher-spec GLS trim offers a 161-mm ground clearance, while the base GL sits 175 mm above the ground.

The Kia EV5 comes with a MacPherson Strut suspension with a Single Lower Arm at the front and a Multi-Link at the rear. This setup enhances this SUV’s nimble handling and effortless maneuverability in the city, while effectively soaking up road imperfections and uneven pavement. Overall, the EV5 offers a supple and refined ride for all occupants.

The Kia EV5 model line runs on a single electric motor, producing 217 PS of maximum power and 310 Nm of maximum torque, paired with different battery packs. First, the base GL trim’s motor is fed by a 64.2-kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery that offers a WLTP driving range of up to 400 kilometers.

Meanwhile, the higher-spec GLS’ motor is powered by a bigger 88.1-kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery that offers a higher 550-km WLTP driving range. Both trims, however, feature a CCS2 / Type 2 Charger and support a DC fast charging time of 10% to 80% in just 49 minutes.

That said, the EV5 can get up to speed effortlessly, since its all-electric powertrain offers smooth, linear power delivery. It can overtake slower vehicles on free-flowing highways with ease. And, even at high speeds, its cabin remains quiet and peaceful, thanks to its excellent NVH suppression system. However, if you frequently travel long distances, then the GLS trim arguably has the upper hand among the two variants. 

Both Kia EV5 trims are equipped with multiple advanced driver assistance systems, such as smart cruise control with a stop and go feature, a parking distance warning, forward collision-avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, and lane following assist. The GLS trim further enhances safety with a 360-degree surround view monitor, reverse parking collision avoidance assist, and a blind-spot monitor.

Additionally, the EV5 utilizes discs for both front and rear braking. Its braking setup is also supported by an anti-lock braking system, a multi-collision brake, downhill brake control, hill-start assist control, and electronic stability control.
