LTFRB Launches First Taxi Services in Ilocos
Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairman Atty. Martin B. Delgra III led the inauguration ceremony for the first taxi services in Ilocos.
Ilocos Transport Coop was granted the franchise to operate from Ilocos Sur to any point in Region 1 with 15 service-ready units. Meanwhile, Troy Darren Express was granted the franchise for Ilocos Norte to any point in Region 1 with 15 service-ready units as well.
The taxi service was opened given the increasing demand for additional mode of transportation for the area’s growing population and the steady rise of tourism in Ilocos.
The opening of new routes and franchise for taxi services in the region is part of the PUV Modernization Program (PUVMP), the biggest non-infrastructure program of the Duterte Administration, which aims to modernize the public transportation sector in the Philippines.
The event saw great support from the local government of Ilocos with the attendance of Vice Gov. Jeremias Singson, Ilocos Sur Provincial Board Members Efren Rafanan, Mildred Elaydo, and Gina Cordero, Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Provinial Officer Raymund Pilorin, Ilocos Sur Acting Mayor Dr. Liborio Arca, Ilocos Sur Vice Mayor William Pre, and Antonio Agcaoili from Ilocos Norte LGU. Also present in the event were LTFRB Region 1 Regional Director Nasrudin Talipasan and LTFRB Region 1 key officials.
The LTFRB remains steadfast in its commitment to provide safe, reliable, comfortable, affordable, and environmentally sustainable public transportation to our most valuable stakeholder - the riding public.
