LTO collects P1-B in fines, penalties in H1 2024

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has collected P986.5 million worth of fines and penalties in the first half of 2024.

Per the agency, the said amount is the sum accumulated from various traffic violations across the country and is the result of the strict implementation of traffic laws, which aims to ensure the safety of all road users.

“The almost P1 billion collection from fines and penalties alone is a result of the hard work of our law enforcers and other personnel on the ground. We cannot achieve this without their dedication and commitment to ensure road safety,” LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Attorney Vigor Mendoza II said.

According to LTO, its record revealed that a total of 330,073 motorists nationwide were apprehended from January 1 to June 30 this year. The said numbers indicate that not all traffic violators were able to settle their infractions, so the collected amount is still expected to grow.

“Inaasahan nating mas tataas pa ito as soon as mag-settle ng penalties and fines ang mga nahuli. Kaya we are asking them to settle on time because failure to do so would only result in the payment of higher fines and penalties. In short, mas malaki ang babayaran na (We expect it to increase even more as soon as penalties and fines are settled for traffic violators. “As much as possible, we in the LTO do not want motorists to pay any fine or penalty. But in the interest of the rule of law and road safety, we have to do this if this is what it takes to compel them to be disciplined and behaved while on the road,” he added.

LTO’s targeted revenue collection for 2024 is P33 billion.
