LTO set for 'aggressive' seatbelt use campaign

MANILA: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will conduct an aggressive campaign on seatbelt usage this year.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How will the LTO carry out the seatbelt use campaign?

The agency will roll out the initiative through strict  enforcement and information drive.
  • Who will the LTO tap to maximize the information drive?

The LTO will use mass communication platforms, and tap the services of citizen groups, community organizations, transport groups, schools and other stakeholders for the information drive.
  • According to Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II, he already gave instructions to maximize the use of its mass communication platforms to encourage motorists to follow the existing law pertaining to the mandatory use of seatbelts.

Aside from the information drive, the LTO chief said that the campaign will still include strict enforcement through the deployment of our enforcers and coordination with other law enforcement agencies.

“This is also part of our Stop Road Crash program which we will be aggressively pushing this year,” Mendoza noted.

To promote seatbelt usage, the agency will coordinate with the local government units and tap the services of citizen groups, community organizations, transport groups, schools and other stakeholders.

Per Mendoza, the campaign to promote will also pave the way for the conduct of research and study with motorists as respondents, holding of various programs and projects, and promotion of road safety advocacy network system.

“The campaign shall stress the safety and health value of seat belts to support the most effective enforcement,” he shared.

“Creating plans and programs on the nationwide information education communication campaign on the importance and use of seatbelt is crucial for increasing awareness and promoting road safety,” the LTO chief added.

Further, the LTO will conduct regular assessments on the efficiency and effectiveness of the campaign.
