MANILA: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a 90-day driver’s license suspension to the driver of a Mazda MX-5, who was seen holding a wine goblet while operating the said motor vehicle.
Further, the agency has released a show-cause order against the owner of the two-seater sports car after the said video, in which the aforementioned woman was seen driving while clasping the wine chalice, went viral.
The driver — together with the registered owner of the Mazda MX-5 — is now summoned to explain the behavior she displayed while sitting behind the wheel and abusing her privilege of driving on public roads.

The summoned are to submit a verified or sworn statement alongside the automobile in question’s original paperwork. They are to defend themselves against charges of “reckless driving” and “driving while under the influence of liquor or narcotic drugs,” as stated in the country’s “land transportation and traffic code.”
Likewise, the driver is to explain why the agency should not revoke her license and levy the indictment of “improper person to operate a motor vehicle” under the currently implemented laws and regulations governing road use.
The national land transport bureau has scheduled a formal hearing today (December 12, 2025) at the LTO Central Office in East Avenue, Quezon City.
Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao also placed the Mazda MX-5 in question under “alarm” status to prevent any transactions relating to the said motor vehicle.
