BMW Z4

The Z4’s interior is peak luxury, with Vernasca Leather on the upholstered seats and door panel, and choice touches of Alcantara and carbon fiber accents. Depending on your variant of choice, you also get either high gloss black for the SDrive20i or aluminum trim pieces for the M40i, along with the M40i exclusive M Sport Package which swaps the standard seats for more performance-oriented M Sport seats and an M-suite which includes the steering wheel, pedals, and footrest.

What really takes the cake is the BMW’s O. S. 7 infotainment system with its ConnectedDrive service. This 10.25-inch touchscreen instrument panel takes center stage and sits flush at the very center of the cockpit, providing you with everything you need for fine control and infotainment. To add even more pizzaz, the Z4 possesses eleven ambient lights in six changeable colors, along with a standard 10-speaker for the SDrive20i or a deluxe 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system for the M40i.

The Z4 takes a cue from older BMW roadsters and maintains the distinctive long hood and short deck appeal that can be found across Roadsters under the marque. Where it differs for 2024 however, is in its more sleek, aggressive aesthetic. With the large, unmistakable dual kidney grilles, sleek LED headlights, large exhaust vents, and rugged spoiler with what BMW dubs its ‘air curtain’, the Z4 looks quite imposing from the front. This muscularity is balanced out, however, with the rest of the car’s sleek, aerodynamic design.

In true Roadster fashion, it also boasts a pair of air breathers on each side, positioned just behind the front wheel, which the marque claims to help reduce drag and air turbulence. Looks-wise, it adds a sportier appeal to the vehicle, especially in tandem with the slight Coke bottle design that the Z4 has. Add a set of either 19-inch wheels for the M40i or 18-inch alloy wheels for the sDrive20i, and its retractable soft top which can be raised in less than ten seconds. The rear doesn’t skimp on appeal either – with its round L-shaped taillights, another pair of air breathers, and high-gloss dual exhausts.

Depending on the variant, you’ll either get a more powerful, performance-oriented ride and handling in the M40i, or a more balanced take between performance and comfort in the sDrive30i. Its Adaptive M Suspension might help to strike up an even better balance between comfort and performance, but ultimately, each variant will deliver its own perks and drawbacks. 

Depending on the variant of your choice, you either get the M40i’s 3.0-liter Twin Power Turbo inline-six, capable of 340 PS at 5000 to 6500 rpm, with 500 Nm of torque clocking at 1600 to 4500 rpm. This variant is paired with an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and has a starting acceleration speed of 0 to 100 km/h in give-or-take 4.5 seconds.

The sDrive20i variant comes with a 2.0-liter Twin Power Turbo inline-four, capable of 197 PS at 4500 to 6500 rpm, with 320 Nm of torque clocking it at 1450 to 4200 rpm. Like the former, it too is paired to the eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission but takes some 6.6 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h.

Both variants only come with automatic transmission and while there is talk of manual transmission being available if one is willing to shell out even more dough, this can vary between dealerships (if at all available).

The Z4 comes with your standard safety features, with optional Driver Assistance Features as part of BMW’s Driver Assistant Package, which is tied in directly to its own ConnectedDrive Intelligent Personal Assistant A.I.
