Malaysia Cub Prix Bears Witness to 2020 Yamaha Lagenda 115Z GP Edition

Hong Leong Yamaha Motor, a co-sponsor of the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix, unveiled the 2020 Yamaha Lagenda 115Z GP Limited Edition motorcycle at the final round of the said event, as the series conclusion commenced yesterday, December 8, at the Sepang International Circuit.

The limited edition bike is meant to celebrate the successful campaign of Malaysia’s first-ever MotoGP, the Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team (SRT), during their maiden season in the premier class of the Petronas-sponsored motorcycle racing event.

Powering the 2020 Yamaha Lagenda 115Z GP Limited Edition is an air-cooled SOHC double-valve single-cylinder engine that produces 9.92 hp at 7,750 rpm and 9.9 max torque at 6,500 rpm. Two gas shock absorbers equipped at the rear provides the bike with improved overall handling and riding experience over its standard counterparts. They are also the only different feature in this limited edition bike, aside from the paintwork.

The bike, which takes its design inspiration from the Petronas Yamaha SRT YZR-M1 MotoGP racing motorcycle ridden by Sepang Racing Team (SRT) riders Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli during the 2019 season of the Malaysian MotoGP, will hit Hong Leong Yamaha dealerships starting in the middle of December. Every sold bike will be accompanied by an exclusive owner’s certificate.

Hong Leong Yamaha Motor announced that the bike will have a basic price of MYR 5,580 before insurance and road tax. This amounts to approximately PHP 68,167.

The Lagenda 115Z GP Limited Edition joins the 2019 Yamaha YZF-R15 Monster special edition for Hong Leong Yamaha’s GP-themed bikes. The latter was launched earlier this year at a price of MYR 12,618. That converts to around PHP 154,146 in our money.

The Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team (SRT), sprung from the Petronas Yamaha Maju Motor Racing Team established back in 2014, when Maju Motor Racing struck a new sponsorship deal with Petronas ahead of that year’s Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship.

With two iconic names from Malaysia’s premier motorcycle racing championship now combined, the partnership helped create a new name for the team—the PETRONAS Yamaha Maju Motor Racing.

The establishment of the Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team early this year helps make Malaysia’s premier bike racing series a more exciting and competitive event to look forward to.
