Mazda recalls 2023 CX-50 in US, Canada due to trailer wire harness issue
Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) — on behalf of Mazda Motor Corporation — has filed a defect notification with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration due to a safety defect found on the 2023 CX-50 compact crossover sport utility vehicle.

MNAO said that should the trailer wire harness become loose, it can potentially be damaged and cause the lighting and/or braking of a connected trailer to become inoperative, increasing the risk of a crash.Per MNAO, approximately 3,152 units of the 2023 Mazda CX-50 could potentially have a loose trailer wire harness.
Out of the aforementioned figure, MNAO revealed that 560 of the affected vehicles are from the United States while 2,592 are from Canada.
“On affected vehicles, the Mazda Genuine Accessory trailer wire harness may become loose or detached, causing insufficient clearance to underbody components. A detached trailer wire harness may become damaged due to contact with exhaust components or road debris while driving. If the harness becomes damaged, lighting and/or braking of a connected trailer may become inoperative, increasing the risk of a crash. Both the 4-pin and 7-pin harnesses are affected. There is no warning preceding the occurrence of this defect,” MNAO wrote in a press release.
MNAO clarified that there have been no reports of any accidents or injuries due to the defect.
Just last year, the local arm of Mazda issued a safety recall for select Mazda BT-50 pickup trucks due to a defective backseat latch.
