Number coding scheme to be suspended tomorrow 

MANILA: The number coding scheme will be suspended tomorrow. 

According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the agency will be suspending the program in light of Labor Day.

Since the holiday falls on a Friday, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 9 and 0 — which are supposedly prohibited from using Metro Manila’s major thoroughfares — can travel on the metro without being flagged or apprehended by the agency’s deputized officers. 

Motorists could expect heavy traffic as many car owners might take advantage of the three-day break. 

As such, the MMDA reminds motorists to plan their trips accordingly and be careful when driving. 

“Suspendido ang pagpapatupad ng expanded number coding scheme bukas,  Mayo 1, 2026,  isang regular holiday, bilang paggunita sa Araw ng Paggawa. Awtomatikong sinususpinde ang number coding tuwing regular at special non-working holidays. Planuhing mabuti ang inyong biyahe upang maiwasan ang anumang aberya. Mag-ingat sa inyong pagmamaneho.Happy long weekend (The implementation of the expanded number coding scheme is suspended tomorrow, May 1, 2026, a regular holiday, in observance of Labor Day. Number coding is automatically suspended on regular and special non-working holidays. Plan your trip carefully to avoid any inconvenience. Be careful when driving. Happy long weekend)!” MMDA said in a social media post.
