  • In a statement, the Association (made up of the local distributors of Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki,  and Yamaha motorcycle) is eyeing to sell 1.72 million units by end of the year.

The Association is poised to hit the aforementioned goal (10 percent more compared to what it delivered in the full 12 months of 2022), as its sales growth over the last two years — an average of 15 percent — is nearly at par with neighboring countries.

To note, the Association is an active member of the Federation of Asian Motorcycle Industries (FAMI) whose membership includes Asosiasi Industri Sepeda Motor Indonesia (AISI), Motorcycle and Scooter Assemblers and Distributors Association of Malaysia (MASAAM), Thai Automotive Industry Association (TAIA) and Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM).

Earlier, the MDPPA already delivered 447,429 units to customers in the opening quarter of 2023 — nearly breaching the half-million sales mark. The figure is 16.7-percent higher than what the Association tallied in the same period last year. Based on the four motorcycle brands’ sales volume for January-March 2023, they are collectively selling an average of 149,000 units.

Cornering the biggest share for the initial quarter of 2023 is the scooter segment with 269,652 units sold to clients, followed by the business units (those used for commercial purposes) with 83,616 examples rolled out to customers.
