Mercedes-Benz adds EQB adds to electric SUV lineup

After the Concept EQG, the GLB is the next SUV Mercedes-Benz transformed into an EV. 

The EQB's electric power comes from a 66.5 kWh battery and two e-motors. An estimated range of 419 kilometers is featured on the two initial variants of the EQB, the EQB 300 and 350 4Matic, both given all-wheel drive systems by those e-motors. 

As a measure to extend and preserve the EQB's range, the SUV has been fitted with regenerative braking, as well as Navigation with Electric Intelligence. Aside from the fastest route to a destination, the smart navigation plans a route that passes as many charging stations as possible.

As topography and temperature can affect an EV's range, the navigation will also account for these factors and change the route accordingly. In the chance that the range gets close to zero, the EQB's navigation can coach the driver in energy-saving driving measures. 

Positioned as a family hauler, the EQB offers five seats as standard, and is optionally available as a seven-seater. The rear seats can be folded or slid to and fro, in order to make more cargo space, or legroom for the second or third row.  Passengers are kept safe by the Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Brake Assist, both standard features. 

For its exterior, "the EQB interprets Mercedes-EQ's Progressive Luxury in an edgy and particularly characterful way." It features the Mercedes-EQ black panel grille with central star, while another distinctive design feature of the all-EQ vehicles is the continuous light strip at the front and rear. 

The new EQB will be launched in Europe and China at the end of the year, followed by the US market launch in 2022. Production of the EQB will start in September 2021 at the brand's two production networks: the Hungarian Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét for the global market, and at the German-Chinese joint venture BBAC in Beijing for the local market.
