Mini Electric Pacesetter to debut in US at 2021 ABB New York City E-Prix
The Mini Electric Pacesetter will be at the tracks again — the first time on US soil — at the sixth stage of the 2021 ABB New York City E-Prix this weekend.
This is the second time that the vehicle will run on the tracks — as the official safety car — following its debut in Rome earlier this year.
Built on the new Mini Cooper SE and "born out of the creative minds of Mini Design, BMW Motorsport, the FIA and the Formula E," the Mini Electric Pacesetter concept is said to be the “bridge between the brand’s motorsports legacy and its forward-thinking venture into electrification.”
The Mini Electric Pacesetter's distinguishing features on the tracks will be its matte silver finish and a high gloss wrap with a two-color gradient of Highspeed Orange and Curbside Red.
Mini of the Americas Chief Motorer and Vice President Mike Peyton said that using the Electric Pacesetter in race is the perfect opportunity for their latest product.
“It’s exciting to see the Mini Pacesetter make its way to the Brooklyn Formula E circuit right in the backyard of our US headquarters,” Peyton was quoted as saying.
“The Mini Pacesetter as the official Safety Car for the Formula E race series gives us the perfect opportunity to showcase the combination of electrification and performance that is uniquely Mini.”
The aforementioned model has a 135kW drive system that can speed from zero to 100kph in 6.7 seconds. It is also 130 kilograms lighter than the standard Mini Cooper SE.
The Mini Electric Pacesetter will be driven by Bruno Correia, who has been the FIA Formula E Safety Car driver since 2014.
The Philippines, through the Autohub Group of Companies, is offering the 3-door Mini, 5-door Mini, the Convertible, the Clubman, the Countryman, and the John Cooper Works.
