Mini unboxes premier convertible EV

Mini has unveiled the company’s first convertible electric vehicle (EV) — the Cooper SE Convertible.

According to the British automotive marque, the Mini Cooper SE Convertible represents another big step in the direction of electric mobility and will further pave the path for Mini to become an all-electric car brand.

“Three years ago we launched the all-electric Mini Cooper SE, and today one in five Mini sold in Europe is an all-electric Mini. This success has spurred us to implement the small series of the Mini Cooper SE Convertible within only a few months,” said Mini Brand Head Stefanie Wurst.

Powering the Mini Cooper SE Convertible is a 184-horsepower electric motor that is built at the BMW Group’s electric mobility competence centers in Dingolfing and Landshut. Mini further explained that since the electric drive is small, it enables particularly harmonious axle load distribution and favors agile and easily controllable handling.

Performance-wise, the Mini Cooper SE Convertible can zoom from zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in 8.2 seconds. Speed, on the other hand, peaks at 30kph.

Its estimated range, Mini said, is up to 201 kilometers on a single charge.

On the outside, the Mini Cooper SE Convertible wears Resolute Bronze door handles, side scuttles, and the surrounds of the front and rear lights. Further, its emblems are in elegant Piano Black to match. Also found are edition-specific equipment details on the door sill trims and side scuttles.

The E logo familiar from the Mini Cooper SE is found on the front apron and on the rear, thereby visually underlining locally emission-free driving fun.

Per the United Kindom-based brand, the Mini Cooper SE Convertible rides on 17-inch cast alloy wheels in Electric Power Spoke two-tone design, which are made from 100 percent secondary aluminum.

Inside, the Mini Cooper SE Convertible get sport seats in Mini Yours Leather Lounge design and feature seat heating and adjustable thigh support. The seats are complemented by a multifunctional sports leather steering wheel in Nappa leather finish.

Only 999 samples of the Mini Cooper SE Convertible will be made, the carmaker confirmed. These all-electric convertibles will be made available in Europe by April this year.

“I’m delighted that we can offer 999 Mini customers an extraordinary and exclusive open-air go-kart feeling,” said Wurst.
