MMDA Gears Up for ‘Undas,’ Cancels Employee Leaves
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) canceled the leaves of its employees to maximize its manpower and serve the public better for 'Undas.' Bong Nebrija, the agency's Operations Commander, relayed the information to the media in a press conference held Sunday, October 28.
Nebrija said that starting Wednesday, October 31, all MMDA employees are required to report for work to better manage the influx of vehicles in the metro over the holiday.
He also said that the agency has already deployed more traffic enforcers, and plans to closely monitor the Manila North Cemetery, Manila South Cemetery, Bagbag Cemetery, Loyola Memorial Park, and the Manila Memorial Park when the holiday is in full swing, as these are the cemeteries with the highest number of visitors every year.
Emergency tents will be set up in and around the cemeteries to provide first aid needs.
"Magtatayo kami ng road emergency tents diyan--may ambulansya and first aid providers," he said. "Magkakaroon rin po kami ng volunteers na may dalang wheelchairs para po sa ating mga senior citizen and persons with disability."
Nebrija expects over four million Filipinos will flock to the aforementioned cemeteries to pay respect to their departed loved ones during Undas.
