Several Manila roads to be closed to traffic for PH Independence Celebration

MANILA: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) shared its traffic arrangements that will be implemented in line with the country’s upcoming 127th Independence Day celebration.

  • The agency will close several roads in the City of Manila starting 5 a.m.-11 a.m. for the celebration at Luneta Park. These are:

    • Bonifacio Drive (from P. Burgos to Anda Circle)
    • TM Kalaw (from Taft Avenue to Roxas Boulevard)
    • P. Burgos (from Taft Avenue to Roxas Boulevard)
    • Finance Road (Taft Avenue to P. Burgos Drive)
    • Maria Orosa (from TM Kalaw to P. Burgos Drive)

    Meanwhile, the whole stretch of Katigbak Drive, Independence Road, and South Road will also not be passable to vehicular traffic from 12:01 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

    In line with this, MMDA advised motorists to take the following routes instead.

    Routes for light vehicles

    Those going north from Roxas Boulevard may right turn at Buendia, then turn left at Taft Avenue to destination or right turn at Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) then left turn at Osmeña.

    Motorists heading south from R -10 may head to to Bonifacio Drive going to Anda Circle, left to Soriano Avenue, right to Solana Street, left to Muralla Street, left to Magallanes Drive, then right turn to P. Burgos Avenue.

    Routes for trucks

    Haulers going to North Harbor from South Luzon Expressway may head straight to Osmeña Highway, turn right to Quirino Avenue, straight to Nagtahan Street, take Lacson Avenue, left turn to Yuseco Street, and straight to Capulong Street then right turn or turn left to R-10 road to destination.

    Trucks coming from Parañaque Area may turn right at EDSA going to Magallanes Service Road, make a left turn to Osmeña Highway to Nagtahan, then Lacson Avenue to destinations.

    Trucks going to the south may utilize the same route.

    Further, the agency also announced that it will suspend the expanded Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (commonly known as number coding scheme).

    Relatedly, some 1,100 personnel from various offices will be deployed to man the traffic and monitor the situation in the area. Ambulances, tow trucks, barriers, and plastic cones, and other equipment will also be deployed to ensure peaceful and orderly conduct of the event.
