2018 Geneva Motor Show: Lamborghini Huracán Performante Spyder

Lamborghini Huracán Performante Spyder

As if the Huracán Performante wasn’t jawdropping enough, Lamborghini raises the bar on their awe-inspiring coupe to the stratosphere by debuting a topless Spyder variant at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show.

As analogies go, the Performante is like the Huracán with more testosterone, its 5.2-liter, naturally-aspirated V10 producing a 640 hp and 600 Nm of torque. The car manages these handsome performance numbers via its Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA) active aerodynamics system which aids downforce.

If the Performante is the Huracán on testosterone therapy, then the Performante Spyder is its steroid-addled version. The permanent four-wheel drive Spyder accelerates from 0-100 kph in 3.1 seconds, 0-200 kph in 9.3 seconds, and with a top speed of 325 kph, matches its coupé stablemate. Braking from 100-0 km/h is completed in 31.5 m.

The Spyder’s open-top design clearly differentiates it from its coupé counterpart, with roof both open and closed. The electro-hydraulic fabric roof, which only takes 17 seconds to deploy, can be done at driving speeds of up to 30 kph. The rear glass, which is independently movable, doubles as a wind deflector when the roof is opened. In addition, two movable, speedster-style fins rise up from the seat backs, continuing the roofline from where it trails off. The fins have an integrated duct that reduces cabin turbulence and two wind guards that diminish the impact of the wind on the cabin’s occupants. Thus, even at high speeds, driver and passenger can carry audible conversations.

"The Huracán Performante Spyder takes the zenith of Huracán developments, combined with the enhanced emotion of driving a convertible," says Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini. "The Huracán Performante already provides the most heightened feedback and emotion from road and track, and the Huracán Performante Spyder puts the driver even closer to asphalt and air, as well as the unique resonance of a naturally-aspirated Lamborghini engine."

Lamborghini's new hardcore convertible carries a suggested retail price of $308,859 (over P16 million). The first cars will be available later this year.
