Marcos Jr. orders prohibition of sirens, blinkers usage

Signaling, flashing devices reserved for AFP, NBI, PNP, other emergency vehicle use

President Ferdinand Marcos Junior has issued an order, which prohibits public officials and personnel from using signaling or flashing devices.

    Administrative Order No. 18 cites “traffic disruptions” and “unsafe road and traffic environment” due to unauthorized and indiscriminate use of sirens and blinkers as one of the reasons for imposing the order.

    That said, unauthorized and improper use of signaling and flashing devices by government officials and employees will result in penalties based on applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

    Moreover, the said directive orders the Department of Transportation to review, evaluate, and update existing policies and guidelines relating to the improper use of such devices.

    To note, former President Benigno Aquino III ordered a similar policy under his administration.
