One of the malls under the Sy conglomerate in the Philippines has decided to open a drive-in, which is considered to be a first for such a venture in the country.

Starting this Friday, the SM Cinema Drive-In will open in SM City Pampanga Amphitheater. This will allow moviegoers to watch their favorite movies in the comforts of their own car, where they can maintain social distancing measures set by the government.

Movie screenings will be done twice a day, 5:30 PM and 8:20 PM, from Fridays-Sundays. A vehicle going into the drive-in moviehouse can have two-four occupants, the SM Cinema said. However, they clarified that only individuals between 21 and 59 years of age will be admitted to enter the SM Drive-in Cinema.

According to SM Cinemas, a total of 80-90 vehicles can be accommodated per screening.

Each ticket costs P400 and that payment for the ticket will be per head, not per vehicle. The said amount also covers the food which consists of bottled water, regular-sized popcorn, and beef franks.

Just like in regular moviehouses, outside food and beverages are prohibited.

The movie screen size is 20 meters by 8 meters and is elevated by approximately 1 meter from the ground.

Once inside the moviehouse, guests will be required to turn on their car’s FM radio to a specific frequency as the audio will be broadcasted to each vehicle.

Guests are advised to arrive 30 minutes prior the screening. Those who will come within 30 minutes from the start of the movie will still be allowed. Guests who are late for over 30 minutes after the start of the screening “will no longer be admitted and tickets will not be refunded.”

Further,  ticket refunds will only be allowed due to the following circumstances, with the option to re-book for a different screening schedule:

  • Stoppage due to extreme weather conditions.
  • Stoppage due to irreparable technical malfunctions.
  • Early cancellations due to the above conditions.

Moviegoers from outside Pampanga may need to have their respective Travel Pass. Those who seek to have a travel pass may need to accomplish forms available in their own barangays such as:

  • Health Declaration Form
  • Travel Authority Request Form
  • Medical Clearance Certificate.

Those who want to want to experience the latest “out-of-home entertainment” may purchase their tickets online at https://smtickets.com/.
