The MG HS is one of the newest compact crossovers on the market. It was launched earlier this year and is easily one of the most handsome SUVs in the segment.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the pros of the MG HS?

The appealing elements offered by the MG HS include its handsome exterior, its sleek and modern cabin, and its Sport Mode.
  • What are the cons of the MG HS?

We think that the MG HS could have used a larger luggage area.
  • Today, we’re looking at some of the pros and cons of the MG HS to help you decide if this crossover fits your motoring needs.

    Pros

    1. Modern-looking exterior

As we’ve briefly covered above, the MG HS is one of the most good-looking crossovers in the segment. It has a clean and sporty exterior characterized by its Stardust grille and LED headlamps with nine crystal lighting units, DRLs, and turn signal indicators. And oh, it also sports a handsome-looking faux skid plate.

Its rear boasts a similar appeal with LED taillamps, sequential turn signals, a faux diffuser, and two exhaust pipes.

The MG HS’ side profile is highlighted by its 18-inch Diamond Cut alloy wheels.

    2. Beautiful interior

Those eyeing the MG HS would be pleased to know that the looks found on the exterior seamlessly translate to the interior.

The cabin has a welcoming atmosphere thanks to its sporty and spacious design. The MG HS boasts firm yet comfortable Sport Bucket seats that pair well with the similarly sporty, multifunctional steering wheel.

Information is relayed to the driver via the 12.3-inch Virtual Driver Information Center while passengers are kept engaged thanks to its large 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

It also has a panoramic sunroof and a cabin air filter system.

    3. Swift shift

The MG HS is equipped with paddle shifters for quick and easy shifting in various driving conditions. It also is fitted with a Sport Mode system that can easily be accessed from the D-shaped steering wheel of the SUV.

Roy Robles of Zigwheels Philippines, Carmudi’s sibling platform, says that the Sport Mode slightly changes the overall driving dynamics of the MG HS and makes the steering a bit stiffer, the engine somewhat louder, and acceleration quite quicker.

    Cons

    1. Could use more luggage space

The MG HS sure is a spacious crossover. Even tall passengers would not have to worry about sitting at the rear. It does however sacrifice boot space and can only accommodate average-sized luggage at the back.

    mg hs 3

In total, the MG HS offers only 161 liters of space compared to its segment rivals like the Raize, with a 369-liter cargo area, and the Geely Coolray, with a 330-liter cargo volume.

    Summary

The MG HS comes as a strong contender in the local compact crossover SUV segment. It definitely has more pros than it has cons, and quite frankly, they’re too inconsequential to be a deal breaker when considering the MG HS.

It’s currently offered in two variants, the Alpha — priced at P1,258,888 — and the Trophy — priced at P1,308,888.

The HS joins MG’s growing roster which includes the MG ZS, MG RX5, and MG ZS T.
