Last month, Toyota’s subsidiary brand Hino Motors, Ltd., was found falsifying its emission results. The alleged fabrication of its emission records was discovered after Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism conducted an on-site inspection revealing the truck company to have been performing only one emission test for specific vehicle models when the test would have been twice or more.

  • As a result, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism has issued a Correction Order to Hino. Toyota has issued a statement regarding the said administrative disposition hinting that the automotive firm found it “quite strict.”

Nevertheless, Toyota said it “will continue to watch closely whether Hino can be reborn as a company worthy of the trust of its stakeholders.” The Aichi-based brand also said that it will also support Hino in areas and operations where it can, including assistance in work related to engine certification for light-duty trucks, which Hino has requested.

Toyota temporarily suspended the shipment of the vehicles whose emission tests were falsified — the Cargo and Dump variants of the two-ton Dyna trucks. In addition, Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corporation (CJPT), has expelled Hino due to its misconduct regarding its emissions certification.
