In a recent video uploaded in Hyundai’s official YouTube channel, the South Korean carmaker is seen transforming an Ioniq 5 prototype into an air filter. You can check out the video, dubbed the Ioniq 5 Rebirth, here.
Having accomplished its mission as a test car — doing NVH, wind tunnel noise, NVH characteristic evaluation, AVAS regulation, and pass-by noise regulation testing, — the Ioniq 5 undergoes an unconventional transformation. In the video, the folks at Hyundai are seen stripping down the EV piece by piece which ultimately leads to a flat lay of its parts arranged and organized in a way that would make Monica from Friends proud.
Several components like the filter unit, the cooling fan, the Ioniq 5 emblem, the 20-inch alloy wheel, the hood and door panels, the LED tail lamp, as well as the instrument panel, were used to build a cyberpunk-ish air filter.
Hyundai also demonstrates how the Ioniq 5 prototype air filter sucks smoke and filter it to make clean air. This transformation is a part of Hyundai’s vision of “progress for humanity,” saying that “ an adventurous makeover is about to take place.”
