Hyundai Palisade Overview
The 2020 Hyundai Palisade is a recent addition to the South Korean automaker’s fleet of vehicles as its flagship SUV. Recognized as a Red Dot Design awardee for Car Design in 2019, this 7-seater SUV is marketed as the ultimate ride of comfort that aims to make every journey a luxurious experience. The Palisade was added to Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) portfolio just last April 2019, when it had its local unveiling during the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). Prior to that, Hyundai has unveiled this full-size SUV crossover in the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2018. The Palisade competes with the likes of Toyota Land Cruiser, Nissan Patrol Royale, and Ford Expedition.

Hyundai Palisade Interior
Inside the Palisade is a luxurious, roomy cabin that boasts of leather upholstery that matches the leather-clad steering wheels and suede trims. The 7-inch TFT LCD instrument cluster, besides gauges, projects the images captured when the blind view monitor is activated while a heads up display projects GPS navigation information and various other details onto the windshield. The 10.25-inch infotainment display does not come standard with MirrorLink capabilities but the connectivity features are superb. It includes a multimedia USB terminal, wireless charger, and six USB charging ports— which are becoming essential during travels, are strategically placed on the back of the front-row seats and sides of the third-row seats so everyone has access no matter where they are seated. All three rows have ample headroom, legroom, and shoulder room while storage compartment underneath the cargo floor, seatback pockets, cup holders, and cubbies are strategically positioned around the vehicle to maximize the use of space. The 18 cubic feet of luggage space behind the third row can be expanded up to 86.4 cubic feet with all rear seats folded down on travels where you need more cargo space.

Hyundai Palisade Exterior
The all-new 2020 Hyundai Palisade gives a commanding presence on the road just by its sheer size and robust design. The eye-catching powerful hexagonal dark chrome front grille is the centerpiece of the front bumper which is flanked by a pair of narrow swept up LED headlights with daytime running lights. Directly below it is a couple of stacked front fog lights that integrates seamlessly to the headlights through the design accents. On the sides are power side mirrors with side turn signal lamps and chrome coated door molding. At the back are LED combination taillights and rear fog lights. On top are a rear spoiler, shark fin antenna, roof rack, and dual sunroof. The Palisade measures 4,980 mm long, 1,975 mm wide, 1,750 mm tall, and 2,900 mm wheelbase. Hyundai Palisade Ride & Handling
Ride and handling for this full-size Hyundai crossover is one of its selling factors. One, specifically, stands out for the 2020 Palisade GLS: its multi-terrain modes and driving modes. The driver can choose from three terrain options: Snow, Mud, and Sand mode to ensure the vehicle has the optimal tire traction depending on the kind of terrain by adjusting torque, variable power delivery and distribution, and braking power. The four drive modes: Comfort Mode— ideal for daily commute; Eco Mode for fuel efficiency which is best when navigating through congested traffic or secondary roads at lower speeds; Sport Mode for quicker acceleration for cruising on highways; and Smart Mode which uses an algorithm to adjust gear shift intervals based on recent driving patterns makes for good collaboration between car and driver. And with the H-TRAC 4WD system, the Palisade has the flexibility and power to easily navigate from cruising on a highway to tackling the roughest terrains. All these features make driving the Hyundai Palisade very intuitive and fun.
When it comes to riding comfort, unlike other SUVs, the Palisade’s cabin has plenty of legroom for full-grown adults in all three rows. No cramped space for last row passengers on this SUV. Coupled that with plush upholstery and soft-touch materials around the cabin, good insulating materials for low levels of NVH, and three-zone independent-control fully automatic air conditioning makes riding ridiculously pleasant. For suspension, Hyundai equipped its SUV with a system that uses a combination of McPherson Strut at the front and multi-link with self-stabilizer shock absorber at the rear reduces body rolls so passengers get to experience a smooth and well-cushioned ride even on rough, unpaved roads.

Hyundai Palisade Engine & Fuel Consumption
In other markets, the Palisade is offered in three engine sizes and in both diesel and engine variants. Here on our shores, the Palisade will be offered in both the R2.2 diesel and Atkinson-cycle 3.8 L gasoline engine. Currently, the Palisade GLS is the sole model available for now which is equipped with a 2.2 R Common Rail Direct Injection e-VGT engine. The 2,199cc engine can deliver 200 PS of maximum power at 3,800 rpm and 441 Nm of peak torque at 1,750 – 2,750 rpm. The Euro 4 compliant diesel mill is mated to an 8-speed shift by wire automatic transmission which sends power to all four wheels. The fact that this vehicle uses a diesel engine means its more economical in terms of fuel efficiency as compared to its gasoline-powered competitors.

Hyundai Palisade Braking & Safety
Another differentiating proposition of the Palisade is its safety features. This SUV crossover comes with Hyundai SmartSense, the company’s suite of active safety technologies and driver assistance systems that lessens driver fatigue and reduces risks on the road. The Hyundai SmartSense for this SUV includes 9 airbags to protect passengers in all seats from a possible collision. There’s the front and side airbags for the first and second-row passengers, curtain for all rows, and knee airbags for the driver. For stopping power, this Hyundai SUV is fitted with disc brakes on both the front and rear. Assisting it is the electronic parking brake with auto hold, anti-lock braking system, and downhill brake control. There are also convenient features like a smart key with push-start button, cruise control, and steering wheel remote control with Bluetooth voice recognition capabilities. Noteworthy driver-assist systems include parking assist with front and rear parking distance warning, around view monitor, blind-spot collision warning with blind view monitor attached on the side mirrors that show images of the vehicle’s blind spot when turn signals are activated, rear cross-traffic collision warning, electronic stability control, hill-start assist control, trailer stability assist for those who want to tow a trailer, and engine immobilizer.
